Canagagigue Creek (can-a-ga-jig)
The creek is a tributary of the Grand River and was part of the home of the Attawandaron (Neutrals) who occupied southern Ontario before Mennonites began to settle the area in the early 1800's. The reservoir (man-made lake) was created in 1974 by the Grand River Conservation Authority by damming Canagagigue Creek to manage/stabilize water flow in the region. The dam is located at coordinates 43.622668,-80.56437.
After the reservoir Canagagigue Creek meanders south east past Elmira, crosses Northfield Drive and Jigs Hollow Road before its confluence with the Grand River at coordinates 43.573926,-80.490293 between West Montrose and Winterbourne.
