Below: The Whirlpool "inlet" or dead-end seen from the lunch spot. Hikers walk along this shoreline (right side) to the open spot visible on the far side about a third of the way in from the right side of the photograph (see spot in Google Maps). Once you get to that spot you start climbing out of gorge. Good exercise. >>> picture by Pauline
